In the United States District Court, Northern District of Illinois, Eastern Division, plaintiff Obeb Adames has filed a lawsuit against Legacy Varin Property Management, LLC. Adames further alleges that after being assigned a new General Manager named Michael Sherry in September 2023, he began experiencing a hostile work environment due to his national origin. Sherry allegedly made derogatory comments about Adames' accent and even asked for a translator or Adames' wife to translate for him.
The plaintiff alleges that this conduct is offensive and deeply insulting to him. Mr. Adames filed a complaint with the human resources department detailing this behavior. The plaintiff alleges that Mr. Sherry retaliated against him by scheduling him 10 days in a row and denying him any overtime during these days.
The plaintiff seeks redress for the alleged national origin-based discrimination and harassment as well as retaliation under Title VII. He also demands compensation for damages incurred as a result of these actions including wrongful termination.
