Lajon Nelson has filed a lawsuit against the City of Chicago Police Officers, Mark Skutnik, Ivan Villalobos, and other unknown officers for violation of civil rights. The case was filed in the United States District Court, Northern District of Illinois with the court case ID 1:24-cv-03750 on May 8, 2024.
The plaintiff alleges that on December 30, 2023, he was unlawfully detained and searched by the defendants while walking in Chicago. Although Mr. Nelson had no weapons, narcotics or contraband of any kind, the police officers reportedly pointed a gun at Nelson, handcuffed him and kept him in detention for an extended, unnecessary amount of time.
Mr. Nelson claims to have suffered injuries including special damages, humiliation and indignities, and great mental and emotional pain due to the defendants' actions. He argues that these acts were willful, wanton, malicious, oppressive and done with reckless indifference to his rights.
Nelson is seeking judgment for violation of his Fourth Amendment rights by the defendants. He demands compensation for his injuries and losses which are yet to be ascertained. He also requests payment for attorney’s fees pursuant to 42 U.S.C. Section 1983, 42 U.S.C 1988, the Equal Access to Justice Act or any other provision set by law.
