The Construction and General Laborers’ District Council of Chicago and Vicinity (the Union) has filed a lawsuit against Rezzar Demolition, LLC in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. The case, identified as 1:24-cv-03809, was filed on May 9, 2024. The suit seeks to enforce final and binding awards entered against Rezzar by a joint labor-management committee known as the Joint Grievance Committee.

The Union alleges that Rezzar violated a collective bargaining agreement effective from February 10, 2022. Specifically, the company is accused of underpaying wages and failing to pay employee Armando Baltazar for all hours worked, including overtime. These grievances were officially filed on March 29, 2023, and May 1, 2023 respectively.

On November 30, 2023, the Joint Grievance Committee upheld both grievances in their entirety. As a result of these decisions, Rezzar was directed to pay $9,289.39 to employee Adrian Yarveicy along with $4,644.70 in liquidated damages. Additionally, the company was ordered to pay $3,673.50 to Armando Baltazar with $1,836.75 in liquidated damages and 62.5 hours owed to the Laborers’ Pension and Welfare Funds.
