Ciara Norals has filed a lawsuit against The University of Chicago Medical Center in the United States District Court, Northern District of Illinois. The case ID is 1:24-cv-03804 and was filed on May 9, 2024. The plaintiff alleges pregnancy-based discrimination and retaliation under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act of 2023.

Norals, who worked as a Patient Coordinator for the defendant from September 11, 2023, until her termination on November 21, 2023, claims that she was subjected to different terms and conditions of employment than others not within her protected class. She alleges that after informing her employer about her pregnancy on October 20, 2023, she experienced disparate treatment and an intrusive monitoring of her bathroom breaks.

The plaintiff seeks redress for the alleged violations and asserts that all conditions precedent have been fulfilled or complied with. Norals filed a charge of discrimination with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) and received a Notice of Right to Sue from the EEOC.
