Angela Michelle Eberle has filed a lawsuit against NuWave, LLC, alleging that the company's pressure cooker is dangerously defective. The complaint was filed on October 31, 2024, in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. Eberle claims that NuWave's product design and marketing misled consumers about safety features, resulting in her suffering severe burns.
The case revolves around NuWave's "6Q Nutri-Pot 6Q Digital Pressure Cooker," which Eberle alleges has serious defects allowing its lid to be removed while still pressurized. This defect allegedly caused scalding contents to eject from the cooker, leading to first- and second-degree burns on Eberle's legs during an incident on December 5, 2022. Despite marketing claims of a "Sure-Lock® Safety System" designed to prevent such accidents, Eberle argues that NuWave failed to adequately warn consumers or recall the product after becoming aware of its dangers.
Eberle accuses NuWave of prioritizing profit over consumer safety by continuing to sell the pressure cookers without addressing known defects. She asserts that NuWave ignored multiple reports of similar incidents and lawsuits involving their products' safety systems. The plaintiff is seeking compensatory damages for her injuries and associated costs, as well as punitive damages due to what she describes as NuWave's willful disregard for consumer safety.
Represented by attorneys Timothy S. Tomasik and Loren Legorreta from Tomasik Kotin Kasserman LLC in Chicago, along with Adam J. Kress and Anna R. Rick from Johnson Becker PLLC in St. Paul, Minnesota, Eberle is pursuing this case under Case No.: 1:24-cv-11220 before the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.
