A former employee has taken legal action against a security services company, alleging violations of wage laws. Jakaun Coleman filed a complaint on Oct. 28 in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois against Titan Tactical Security, LLC. The lawsuit accuses the company of failing to pay wages and violating several labor laws.

Jakaun Coleman worked as a security guard for Titan Tactical Security from July 4, 2024, to August 4, 2024. During this period, he claims that he was not paid his earned wages despite working up to 40 hours per week at an hourly rate of $18.00. Coleman alleges that Titan Tactical Security failed to compensate him according to the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), the Illinois Minimum Wage Law (IMWL), and the Illinois Wage Payment and Collection Act (IWPCA). He is currently owed $2,880 in unpaid wages for his month-long employment with the company.

The complaint details how Coleman engaged in protected activity by raising concerns about his unpaid wages on July 18, 2024. In response, Andrew Hopkins, an agent of Titan Tactical Security, assured him that payment would be made once their system issues were resolved. However, these assurances were not fulfilled, leaving Coleman without his rightful earnings and ultimately leading to his discharge on August 4.

Coleman's lawsuit seeks redress for damages incurred due to Titan Tactical Security's actions. These damages include unpaid wages, loss of employment and income, mental anguish, emotional distress, humiliation, financial distress, and loss of enjoyment of life. He is requesting judgment in his favor for violations under each cited law: FLSA for minimum wage non-compliance; IMWL for failing to meet state minimum wage requirements; and IWPCA for failure to pay both regular and final compensation.

In addition to seeking unpaid wages with statutory penalties under each count of violation mentioned above—Coleman also requests reasonable attorney’s fees and costs associated with bringing this action forward.

Representing Jakaun Coleman is Mohammed O. Badwan from Sulaiman Law Group Ltd., while no defense attorneys are listed in the initial filing document. The case is identified as Case No: 1:24-cv-11040 before the United States District Court Northern District Of Illinois Eastern Division.
