A former employee is taking legal action against a car dealership, alleging wrongful termination and unpaid wages. Sonny Morrison filed a complaint on November 12, 2024, in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois against Napleton’s River Oaks Motors, Inc. The lawsuit accuses the defendant of violating both federal and state labor laws.

The complaint stems from Morrison's employment as a service provider at Napleton’s River Oaks Motors from January 2024 until his termination on June 17, 2024. Morrison claims that he was promised higher earnings than he received and that his inquiries about these discrepancies led to his dismissal. Specifically, Morrison alleges that after raising concerns about his pay with coworkers and management, he was terminated just two hours later under the pretense of corporate layoffs—a claim he disputes given the dealership's continued hiring practices. The complaint further states that Morrison was owed approximately $40,000 in commissions which have not been paid.

Morrison's legal action is based on alleged violations of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and the Illinois Wage Payment and Collection Act (IWPCA). He asserts that his discussions regarding wage discrepancies were protected activities under these laws, making his subsequent firing retaliatory and unlawful. Additionally, Morrison accuses Napleton’s River Oaks Motors of failing to pay him his final compensation as required by law. The lawsuit seeks damages including lost wages, liquidated damages equal to unpaid compensation, attorney fees, and other relief deemed appropriate by the court.

Representing Morrison is attorney Chad W. Eisenback from Sulaiman Law Group Ltd., while no defense attorneys are listed in the document. The case has been assigned Case ID 1:24-cv-11647 in front of an unnamed judge at this stage.
