Chief Justice Mary Jane Theis and the Illinois Supreme Court have announced the appointment of Kimberly Przekota as a judge in the Eleventh Subcircuit of the Cook County Circuit Court.

“Ms. Przekota received rave reviews from the judicial screening committee during the application process,” Chief Justice Theis said. “Her extensive courtroom experience has prepared her well for this new role.” Ms. Przekota is being appointed to fill the vacancy created by the retirement of Judge Mary Colleen Roberts. Ms. Przekota’s appointment is effective February 20, 2025, and will conclude on December 7, 2026. “I am honored by this appointment and would like to thank Chief Justice Theis and the Illinois Supreme Court,” Ms. Przekota said. “I am truly grateful and look forward to continuing my career as a public servant for the citizens of Cook County.”

Ms. Przekota has worked in the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office as an Assistant State’s Attorney since 2009, rising to the role of lead prosecutor for murder trials and most recently serving in the Special Prosecutions Bureau and Complex Homicide Unit. She has litigated countless pre-trial motions, bench trials, jury trials, post-trial motions and sentencings, and first started at the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office as a volunteer law clerk.

Ms. Przekota earned both her Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts in History from Iona College and earned her Juris Doctor from the DePaul University College of Law.
