Global law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP expanded its Real Estate capabilities with the addition of Daniel J. Elrod as a shareholder in its Chicago office. Elrod joins the firm from Katten Muchin Rosenman LLP.

With more than a dozen years of legal experience, Elrod represents debt funds, life insurance companies, and institutional lenders in a wide range of commercial real estate transactions nationwide. He routinely advises clients in the origination of mortgage loans secured by diverse property types, as well as loan modifications and workouts. He also represents institutional investors in acquisitions, dispositions, and the formation of real estate joint venture agreements.

“Dan is a top-notch real estate attorney who further strengthens our market-leading Real Estate Finance practice both locally and nationally. In today’s market, where the distinction between equity and debt has blurred, Dan brings valuable experience that aligns perfectly with our mission to provide strategic, creative and solutions-oriented legal advice that helps our clients succeed,” said Michael J. Baum, co-chair of the Global Real Estate Practice and a senior vice president of the firm. “I have known Dan for many years through our shared clients. His personable nature and excellent communication skills make him an ideal fit for our collaborative culture at Greenberg Traurig.”

“I was drawn to the firm because of its premier brand name in Real Estate, both in Chicago and nationally, and its best-in-class approach to client service” Elrod said. “I look forward to collaborating with my new colleagues at Greenberg Traurig to ensure the continued growth of its highly regarded Real Estate Finance Practice and the continued success on behalf of our clients.”

Elrod also has experience in the sports and entertainment sector, having represented various clients in the development and financing of professional sports arenas, stadiums, and entertainment complexes.

“Real estate has been a cornerstone of our Chicago office since we opened here more than 25 years ago. Dan’s addition to our team underscores our unwavering commitment to providing our clients with the highest quality legal services,” said John F. Gibbons and Rita M. Powers, co-managing shareholders of Greenberg Traurig’s Chicago office. “We are delighted to welcome Dan to the firm.”

Elrod earned his J.D. from Northwestern University School of Law and his B.A. from the University of Michigan.
