A former employee of the City of Chicago has filed a lawsuit alleging racial discrimination and retaliation in the workplace. Chris Logan, represented by Jeffrey Law Office, LLC, filed the complaint on March 18, 2025, in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois against his former employer, the City of Chicago.
Chris Logan's legal battle with the City of Chicago stems from alleged discriminatory practices during his tenure at the Department of Aviation. Logan, an African-American man, claims that he faced numerous obstacles to his professional advancement due to his race. He was hired as an Aviation Officer on October 11, 1992, and eventually promoted to Aviation Sergeant following an arbitration award on June 3, 2019. However, he alleges that this promotion was delayed by over two months due to discriminatory practices within the department. According to Logan's complaint, he endured continuous harassment and disparate treatment from various supervisors including Arthur Everett (Deputy Commissioner), Kevin Zator (Assistant Commissioner), Kenneth Glover (3rd Watch Shift Supervisor), Akram Hasan (2nd Watch Shift Supervisor), and James Woods (1st Watch Shift Supervisor). These experiences led him to file grievances and an EEOC Charge of Discrimination in October 2023. The EEOC issued a Notice of Right to Sue on December 18, 2024.
Logan contends that despite being qualified for his role and performing satisfactorily according to the City's expectations, he was subjected to unfair treatment because of his race. His complaint highlights instances where non-African-American employees were treated more favorably under similar circumstances. Furthermore, Logan asserts that his termination on March 24, 2023, was retaliatory in nature due to his prior complaints about discrimination and filing lawsuits against the City.
The lawsuit is brought under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 which prohibits employment discrimination based on race. Logan seeks several forms of relief from the court including a declaration that the City violated Title VII laws; injunctive relief preventing further violations; reinstatement to his previous position; back pay; compensatory damages; attorney’s fees; and other appropriate reliefs.
Representing Chris Logan is Attorney Antonio L. Jeffrey from Jeffrey Law Office LLC located in Oak Brook, Illinois. The case is presided over by judges at the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois under Case ID: 25-cv-2836.
