A former employee is taking legal action against a prominent health intelligence company, alleging age and racial discrimination. Yanchun Xu filed the complaint in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois on April 2, 2025, targeting Health Intelligence Company LLC, doing business as Blue Health Intelligence.
Yanchun Xu's lawsuit claims violations of several laws, including the Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA), Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, and the Illinois Human Rights Act. The plaintiff asserts that she was employed by Blue Health Intelligence from May 16, 2017, until her termination on January 19, 2023. Xu alleges that her job title was changed without explanation in April 2021 along with three other Asian colleagues over the age of 40. This change led to a demotion from Senior Statistical Consultant to Senior Statistical Analyst, which did not reflect her qualifications or responsibilities. She contends that these actions were part of a broader pattern of discrimination based on age and race.
Xu's complaint details how she and her colleagues protested these changes in writing to HR and management but faced retaliation instead. In January 2023, Xu was informed via video call about her termination due to "realignment" and "headcount reduction." However, she argues that only older employees who had protested were terminated while younger employees were retained. Within days of these terminations, the company advertised over twenty open positions similar to those held by the terminated employees.
The lawsuit accuses Blue Health Intelligence of using false justifications for termination and engaging in discriminatory practices against Asian employees over 40 years old. It further alleges that the company's actions were motivated by race and national origin bias as well as retaliation for raising concerns about discriminatory practices.
Xu seeks judgment against Blue Health Intelligence for violating federal and state anti-discrimination laws. She requests back pay, front pay, lost benefits, compensatory damages for emotional distress, punitive damages, liquidated damages under ADEA provisions, attorneys' fees, costs associated with this action, and any other relief deemed appropriate by the court.
