In just six months after being appointed as pro bono attorneys, Partner Daisy Ayllón and Senior Attorney Sarah M. Raisch successfully resolved a Hague Convention case, enabling a brave mother to remain in the United States with her 8-year-old son.

This case was not only complex—spanning immigration, criminal, family, and international law—but also deeply significant, involving a mother fleeing domestic violence in her home country to seek safety and asylum for both her and her child.

One of the initial hurdles in the case was ensuring that the client did not face adverse criminal consequences due to procedural issues that arose before Romanucci & Blandin was appointed to represent her. Sarah drew on her experience as a former public defender to navigate this challenge and protect the client’s rights from the outset.

Daisy and Sarah dedicated themselves to mastering the nuances of Hague Convention cases. Just as important as their legal strategy was the compassionate and trusting relationship they built with their client. The mother, unfamiliar with the American legal system and terrified of the potential consequences, often felt isolated and overwhelmed. Daisy played a crucial role in helping the client understand the process and feel supported at every step. Before being appointed as her lawyers, the client had no one to turn to when court rulings loomed that could have jeopardized her future and that of her son.

This success was made possible through the unwavering support of the Romanucci & Blandin team. Founding Partners Antonio M. Romanucci and Stephan D. Blandin provided unlimited resources to assist this family immediately. Senior Paralegal Yazmin Morales-Castro contributed exceptional investigative work. Senior Attorney Patrick A. Huber and Law Clerk Riley Boreta provided important assistance with initial legal research and writing.

“As a mother, this case was incredibly important to me,” said Sarah. “We wanted to make sure this child could stay in school, maintain his friendships, and continue thriving in his community. It gives me great satisfaction to know he is now safe and in a loving environment.”

“Although outside of our traditional practice areas, our goal from the start was to ensure this child could remain with his mother in the U.S. I know our client would have been devastated if forced to be separated from her child,” added Daisy. “We’re very pleased to have achieved this outcome for our client.”

Romanucci & Blandin is committed to supporting the communities it serves and using the law as a force for good.
