Kendra Crawford, a passenger on a Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) bus, has filed a lawsuit alleging negligence after suffering severe injuries due to an abrupt stop. The complaint was filed by Crawford in the Circuit Court of Cook County, Illinois, on April 7, 2025, against an unknown driver and the CTA.

The incident occurred on July 4, 2024, when Crawford was riding the CTA bus along East 63rd Street near South Blackstone Avenue in Chicago. According to the complaint, the bus made a sudden stop while she was still attempting to secure herself in a safe position. This abrupt halt caused her to fall forward and hit her head on a metal grab-bar inside the bus. As per the filing, this resulted in severe injuries including a large laceration above her right eye, leading to ongoing pain and suffering as well as significant medical expenses.

Crawford's lawsuit accuses both the unknown driver and the CTA of negligence. She claims that the driver failed to exercise reasonable care by not allowing passengers sufficient time to be seated or secured before stopping abruptly. The complaint also highlights that no warning was given before the sudden stop. The allegations extend to vicarious liability for CTA since the driver was acting within their scope of employment at the time of the incident.

In seeking justice, Crawford is requesting compensation exceeding $50,000 for past and future damages related to pain and suffering, disability, disfigurement, medical bills, lost wages and business opportunities, emotional distress, and other related losses. She emphasizes that these damages stem directly from what she describes as wrongful acts or omissions by both defendants.

Representing Kendra Crawford is Michael J. Glink from The Law Office of Michael J. Glink LLC located in Chicago. The case is being heard under Case No. 2025L004735 with initial proceedings scheduled for June 3, 2025.
