A Cook County cyclist is suing a driver, alleging a collision between the motorist’s vehicle and his bicycle left him with permanent injuries.

Adam Kedzior filed a lawsuit June 17 in Cook County Circuit Court against Elvis Matos, alleging Matos barreled into him while he was cycling in 2013.

According to the complaint, on June 17, 2013, Kedzior was riding his bicycle westward along Altgeld Street in Chicago at approximately 10:05 p.m. near the intersection of Mango Avenue when Matos, driving southbound on Mango, struck the plaintiff after failing to obey a stop sign. The suit states Matos failed to reduce his speed or stop in response to the stop sign and that he neglected to keep a proper lookout, use precaution to avoid striking a bicyclist, control his vehicle and maneuver it to avoid impact and obey traffic laws.

As a direct and proximate result of the defendant’s wrongful acts or omissions, the filing states, the cyclist suffered serious injuries to his head, back, chest and leg, causing chronic daily discomfort, pain and mental anguish. The plaintiff claims medical expenses along with injuries.

Kedzior seeks damages in excess of $30,000, plus attorney fees and costs. He is represented by attorney Dimitrios Karabetsos of the Groszek Law Firm in Chicago.

Cook County Circuit Court case number 2015L0006151.
