Man’s estate seeks damages for allegedly negligent pedicure

The family of a Cook County man is suing a pedicure business, alleging a negligent pedicure led to the man’s death.

Latania Peterson-Carr, on behalf of the estate of Darryl Carr, filed a lawsuit June 5 in Cook County Circuit Court against Weng Hua Cong and Xiao Xian Wang individually and doing business as AZ Happy Nails and A-Z Nail Spa, alleging wrongful death.

According to the complaint, in November 2014, Darryl Carr suffered personal injury during a pedicure performed at AZ Happy Nails in Sauk Village. The suit says the treatment Carr received used unsafe products and methods, and that the staff was improperly trained, inadequately supervised and failed to warn Carr of the potential risks or ask about underlying medical conditions.

The lawsuit states Carr suffered injuries causing his leg and foot to become infected and eventually amputated, ultimately leading to other complications that caused his death June 4.

Carr’s estate seeks damages in excess of $50,000, plus court costs. Peterson-Carr is represented by attorney Michael B. Gunzburg of Susan E. Loggans & Associates in Chicago.

Cook County Circuit Court case number 2015L0005936.
