Robin Jones filed a lawsuit Nov. 6 in the Cook County Circuit Court against Bayer Healthcare Pharmaceuticals Inc. and McKesson Corp. over a birth control product.
Jones is suing over injuries she claims she sustained after using Bayer's product, Mirena, a prescription product used as a contraceptive that is manufactured, supplied and marketed by McKesson, according to the suit.
The suit states that Mirena is an intrauterine device (IUD) that is inserted by a healthcare provider and can remain intrauterine for up to five years.
Jones claims she had the device properly inserted into her uterus, but started to suffer from pelvic pain and underwent surgical removal of the device in October 2011.
She claims that if she had been properly warned of the potential for the device to wander in the body and cause harm, she would not have had it inserted.
Jones alleges in her suit that Bayer knew the device was prone to wandering, but failed to warn her, thus breaching both express and implied warranties.
She is seeking more than $50,000 in damages and is being represented by Chicago attorney Howard S. Miller.
