Local dentist faces medical malpractice suit

Dicker

A local dentist is facing suit over claims he dropped a dental instrument in a patient's throat, causing injury.

Mary Cecola filed a medical malpractice lawsuit Nov. 8 in Cook County Circuit Court against Daniel Y. Kim D.D.S., doing business as Northwest Implant Dental Spa.

The suit states Cecola underwent a dental implant procedure at Northwest Implant Dental Spa, at 109 N. Milwaukee Ave. in Wheeling on Sept. 25, 2012, when the defendant dropped an instrument into her throat.

She claims that attempts to remove the instrument caused it to move down her throat and into her right lung, resulting in injuries.

Cecola is seeking more than $50,000 in damages and is being represented in the case by Steven M. Dicker of Dicker & Dicker.
