Man sues over Actos, claims it causes bladder cancer

A drug manufacturer is facing another lawsuit over claims its prescription drug causes bladder cancer.

Gene R. Rodaway filed a lawsuit Nov. 7 in the Circuit Court of Cook County against  Takeda Pharmaceuticals America Inc., Takeda Pharmaceutical U.S.A. Inc., formerly known as Takeda Pharmaceutical North America Inc., and Takeda Pharmaceutical Co. LTD, citing strict liability and negligence.

Rodaway asserts she was was prescribed Actos in 2005 and was diagnosed with bladder cancer in April 2011. Her suit accuses the defendants of concealing knowledge that when used for more than 12 months, Actos can cause bladder cancer.

She is seeking damages in excess of the jurisdictional limits and is being represented by Allen N. Schwartz of Kralovec, Jambois & Schwartz and the Monsour Law Firm in Longview, Tx.
