Podiatrist accused of being negligent in performing surgery

A man is suing a podiatrist who performed surgery on his heel, alleging he was negligent.

Herbert Walker filed a lawsuit Nov. 21 in the Cook County Circuit Court against Dr. Lewis P. Carrozza, citing medical malpractice.

According to the complaint, Walker began treatment with Carrozza on May 23, 2011 for a bone spur in his right heel and after continued pain, returned on Nov. 1, 2011, when it was determined that he needed surgery.

Walker contends he underwent out-patient surgery on Nov. 21, 2011 to remove the bone spur and was seen by Carrozza seven times between Nov. 21 and Dec. 27 of that year.

He claims the defendant was negligent by failing to properly perform the exostectomy on his right heel and failing to properly secure the Achilles tendon after surgery, causing Walker to not be able to walk normally or climb stairs.

Walker is seeking damages in excess of $50,000 and is being represented in the case by attorney Burton I. Weinstein of Baskin, Server, Berke & Weinstein LLC.
