Surgery patient files med-mal suit against Rush medical center, nurses

Yagoda

Rush University Medical Center and a pair of nurses are facing a medical malpractice lawsuit accusing them of failing to property monitor a patient.

Ruffie Co filed suit April 25 in the Cook County Circuit Court against Rush University Medical Center and registered nurses Trisha Holton and Kelley Murphy.

Co claims he went to the defendants with complaints of foot and lower leg pain, which resulted in a March 9, 2013 surgery. The defendants, according to the suit, noted in Co's files that after the procedure he was confused and dizzy.

Co contends he fractured his wrist after falling to the floor on May 13 and accuses the  defendants of failing to properly monitor him given his post-surgery symptoms.

Co is seeking damages in excess of jurisdictional requisite and court costs. He is being represented in the case by Chicago attorney Ryan R. Yagoda of Kralovec, Jambois and Schwartz.
