A woman is suing an employee of a concrete company, claiming his negligence led her to slip and fall in newly-poured concrete near her swimming pool in Oak Lawn.
Cynthia Polickey and Ronald Polickey filed a lawsuit May 28 in the Cook County Circuit Court against Gerald Akin, individually and as agent of Merit Concrete Inc., alleging negligence and loss of companionship.
According to the suit, the plaintiffs hired the defendant to install decorative concrete around their existing in-ground swimming pool deck and surrounding area in Oak Lawn.
They claim Akin failed to create the decorative finish in a safe way for an area that was going to become wet and failed to warn them the area was treated with a product that becomes extremely slippery when wet.
Cynthia claims she sustained injuries on may 24, 2012, when she slipped and fell on the concrete.
The plaintiffs are seeking damages in excess of $50,000 and court costs. They are being represented in the case by Chicago attorney Susan D. Smith of Law Offices of Susan D. Smith PC.
