Nursing home resident claims she fractured her leg when staff dropped her

A Cook County woman is suing a Chicago nursing home, claiming she was injured when a staff member dropped her.

Marlene Poindexter filed a lawsuit May 23 in the Cook County Circuit Court against Presidential Pavilion LLC and Forest Edge Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center LLC, alleging violations of the Illinois Nursing Home Care Act.

According to the complaint, Poindexter was a resident at Presidential Pavilion on June 1, 2012, when a staff member dropped her while attempting to transfer her from a wheelchair to her bed.

Poindexter, who claims she fractured her leg as a result of the incident, is seeking more than $50,000 in damages. She is being represented by John R. Gorey of Gorey Law Group P.C.
