Suit: Metal embedded in parking lot surface left man seriously injured

The owners of a Chicago parking lot are facing accusation a man was injured by metal embedded in the surface of a lot.

Kardell Ward filed suit June 3 in Cook County Circuit Court against 4200 Chicago LLC, 4201 Chicago LLC, Swiss Valley Farms and Swiss Valley Farms Cooperative.

According to the complaint, Ward was seriously injured on June 6, 2012, when he stepped off a bus and onto metal embedded in the parking lot surface on property owned by the defendants on West Chicago Avenue.

The defendants are accused of permitting the parking lot to fall into a dangerous state of disrepair, failing to repair the parking lot, warn about the dangerous condition and properly inspect the property.

Ward is seeking damages in an amount in excess of jurisdictional limits and is being represented by attorney James T. Newman of Cooney & Conway.
