Suit: Chase Bank let unauthorized man withdraw $1M-plus from woman's accounts

Chase

A Cook County woman is suing JPMorgan Chase Bank, claiming it let an unauthorized person withdraw more than $1 million from her accounts.

Denise Kaplan filed a lawsuit June 26 in the Cook County Circuit Court against JPMorgan Chase Bank N.A., alleging breach of contract and negligence.

According to the complaint, Kaplan opened bank accounts with Chase on Jan. 12, 2009 that only gave her access to the accounts.

She claims, however, that the bank gave new cards to Joel Kaplan, who then allegedly forged her signature and withdrew $377,577 from one of her accounts and $662,696 from another between Oct. 20, 2009 and  May 19, 2011.

Kaplan is seeking slightly more than $1 million and is being represented in the case by Chicago attorney Robert A. Egan of Robert A. Egan PC.
