Man claims Brentwood, Glen Oaks nursing homes neglected his wife

Battista

A Cook County man is suing over claims his wife suffered neglect in two nursing homes following a stroke.

Samuel Shianna, as power of attorney for Janet Shianna, filed a lawsuit May 22 in the Cook County Circuit Court against Brentwood Operating Company LLC, doing business as Brentwood Sub Acute Healthcare Center, and Glen Oaks Nursing & Rehabilitation Center Ltd., doing business as Glen Oaks Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.

According to the complaint, Janet suffered a stroke in May 2012 and became dependent on a ventilator. Shianna claims in August 2012, Janet was admitted to Brentwood's facility in Burbank, where she developed pressure ulcers.

She was then transferred to Glen Oaks in Northbrook on Sept. 17, 2012, was diagnosed with an infection due to the pressure ulcers on Sept. 29, 2012 and found unresponsive on Oct. 17, 2012, the suit states.

Shianna alleges Janet was taken to the hospital, where she was diagnosed with sepsis, urinary tract infection, septic shock, a stage IV pressure ulcer, new ulcers, skin tears, dehydration and a fungal rash.

The suit accuses the defendants of violating the Illinois Nursing Home Care Act. He is seeking more than $50,000 in damages and is being represented in the case by attorney Catherine D. Battista of Argento & Battista LLC.
