Alden-Lakeland nursing home hit with wrongful death suit

The relative of a woman who stayed in a Chicago nursing home is suing over claims it provided negligent care that led to her death.

Arthur Ray, individually and as administrator of the Estate of Briggette Ray, filed a lawsuit May 20 in the Cook County Circuit Court against Alden-Lakeland Rehabilitation and Health Care Center Inc. and Dr. Maher Al-Koubaytari, alleging wrongful death, negligence and violations of the Illinois Nursing Home Care Act.

According to the suit, Briggette was a resident of Alden-Lakeland from Jan. 1, 2010 to through May 21, 2012, during which time Al-Koubaytari served as her doctor. He claims the facility and doctor failed to provide proper, notify her regular doctor of her condition and protect her from abuse and neglect.

Briggette suffered from malnutrition, infection, decubitus ulcers, pressure sores, permanent disability, disfigurement, physical and emotional trauma, anguish and  endured pain, suffering and medical expenses, the complaint alleges.

Ray is seeking damages in excess of $100,000, plus court costs, and is being represented by the Law Offices of Craig L. Manchik & Associates P.C.
