Tenant blames property manager for stair fall, claims bannister gave way

A woman is suing a property management group, alleging its negligence led her to fall down the stairs of her apartment building.

Chnese Wilson filed a lawsuit July 15 in the Cook County Circuit Court against East Lake Management Group Inc., alleging premises liability.

According to the complaint, Wilson was a tenant in the defendant's apartment building on South Morgan Street in Chicago and was walking down the stairs on Aug. 9, 2012, when the bannister gave way, causing her to fall down the stairs. The defendant is accused of negligence and failing to maintain its premises.

Wilson is seeking more than $50,000 in damages and is being represented by Jeffrey S. Deutschman and Bradley A. Skafish of Deutschman & Associates P.C. in Chicago.
