Suit: Gynecologist failed to remove patient's old intrauterine device before inserting new one

Rooth

An area gynecologist is facing a lawsuit from a woman who claims he inserted a new contraceptive intrauterine device without removing an old one, causing it to perforate her uterus.

Janella Lenoir filed a lawsuit July 15 in the Cook County Circuit Court against Dr. James Nunn and Pef Clinic II Ltd., alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, Lenoir underwent a procedure by Nunn of Pef Clinic II on June 25, 2012, for the replacement of a contraceptive intrauterine device, a form of birth control commonly known as an IUD.

From then until Dec. 24, Lenoir claims she saw Nunn several times for complaints of pelvic pain and eventually learned Nunn had failed to remove her existing IUD before inserting the new one, causing the old one to become embedded and perforate her uterus.

Lenoir is seeking more than $50,000 in damages and is being represented in the case by attorney Robert J. Rooth of The Rooth Law Firm in Evanston.
