Patient sues Northwest Radiology Associaties, doctor over alleged blood vessel, aorta injuries

Scales

A woman is suing over claims her blood vessels and aorta were injured during a procedure performed by a Northwest Radiology Associates doctor.

Betty and Andrew Bellavia filed a lawsuit in the Cook County Circuit Court against Dr. Jonathan Barker and Northwest Radiology Associates S.C., alleging medical negligence.

According to the complaint, Betty Bellavia underwent outpatient procedures, including a kidney angriogram with percutaneous intervention and hand stenting, on March 4, 2009, performed by Barker.

Bellavia claims she sustained injury to her aorta and blood vessels, which required hospitalization at Northwest Community Hospital until March 16, 2009. She accuses the defendants of negligence in failing to properly perform the procedures and recognize that blood vessels were being injured.

The suit also includes a loss of consortium count on behalf of her husband.

The Bellavias are seeking more than $50,000 in damages and are being represented in the case by attorney John J. MacInerney of Hofeld and Schaffner in Chicago.
