Woman files suit against Woodlawn Community Development Corp. over daughter's stair fall

Scales

A Cook County woman is suing over claims her daughter was injured on the staircase of their rented residence.

Keyshia Mukes, as mother and next friend of her minor daughter, filed a lawsuit July 15 in the Cook County Circuit Court against Woodlawn Community Development Corp., alleging premises liability.

According to the complaint, Mukes and her daughter were using the stairs in the building in which they resided on South Ingleside Avenue in Chicago on May 7, 2013, when Mukes' daughter tripped and sustained injuries.

She accuses the defendant of negligence in failing to maintain the premises and claims the stair her daughter tripped on was defective.

Mukes is seeking more than $50,000 in damages and is being represented in the case by attorney Bradley A. Skafish of Deutschman & Associates P.C. in Chicago.
