A Chicago police officer is suing over claims he was hit by a vehicle while operating a Segway on Ashland Avenue.

Eduardo Nodal filed suit July 23 in Cook County Circuit Court against Nelson Yates, Tyrone Harris and Road Runner Road Assist Inc.

According to the complaint, Nodal was operating a Segway in the course of his work as a Chicago copy and was in a crosswalk on South Ashland Avenue on Sept. 10, 2012, when a vehicle driven by Yates and owned by Road Runner Road Assist struck him.

Nodal claims that as a result of the collision, he suffered severe and permanent injuries, as well as physical impairment and medical costs. He accuses Yates of failing to operate his vehicle in a reasonable manner so as to avoid the collision.

Nodal is seeking damages in excess of $50,000, plus costs, and is represented by Chicago attorney Daron A. Romanek of the Law Offices of Romanek & Romanek.
