A Chicago high school focused on the arts is facing a lawsuit over claims a student was injured when a theater prop fell on her head.

Marlee P. Jacobs filed suit July 23 in Cook County Circuit Court against the Chicago Academy for the Arts, a not-for-profit that operates the school in the city's River West neighborhood.

According to the complaint, Jacobs was a student at the school on Nov. 1, 2013, when a theater prop fell and struck her on the head, causing severe and permanent injuries. She accuses the defendant of failing to properly store stage props and placing large props in the hallway and and in high traffic areas.

Jacobs is seeking damages in excess of $50,000 and is represented by Chicago attorney Donald J. Angelini Jr. of Angelini & Angelini.
