A Cook County woman is suing over claims her husband's death was caused by asbestos exposure.

Judith Woodruff, as independent administrator of the Estate of Richard Bryce Woodruff,  filed a lawsuit July 21 in the Cook County Circuit Court against General Electric Co., Grinnell LLC, Trane US Inc. and dozens of other companies.

According to the complaint, Richard was employed in various capacities, including gas attendant, claims adjuster and Navy corpsman, and engaged in non-work related projects between 1959 and 2001, during which time he was exposed to the defendant companies' asbestos-containing products.

Richard was diagnosed with mesothelioma Feb. 11, 2013 and died May 12, 2013, the suit states.

Woodruff is seeking damages, plus costs, and is being represented in the case by attorney Matthew J. Adair of Cooney & Conway in Chicago.
