Father blames Harvey hospital for daughter's death following sickle cell treatment

Scales

The father of a woman who died of a sickle cell patient is suing a hospital for alleged negligence by emergency care personnel.

William Finley, as independent administrator of the Estate of Miyoshi Katanya Finley, filed suit in July in Cook County Circuit Court against Midwest Emergency Associates Ltd., now known as Team Health Great Lakes.

According to the complaint, Miyoshi was a patient in the emergency room at the defendant-owned Ingalls Memorial Hospital in Harvey on and before July 24, 2012 being treated for sickle cell crisis and acute chest syndrome.

Finley claims the defendant's negligence resulted in his daughter's July 25, 2012 death. He accuses the defendant of failing to properly treat Miyoshi and provide her with adequate fluids and oxygen, overmedicating her and not giving her a blood transfusion.
The suit also includes a survival action that alleges the defendant's negligence caused Miyoshi's daughter to lose the society, companionship, love and affection of her mother.

Finley is seeking damages in excess of $50,000 and is represented by Chicago attorney Leonard D. Litwin of Hodes, Greenstein & Litwin.
