Woman sues father for Cherokee Nation identification, family information

Scales

A woman is asking the Cook County Circuit Court to make her father turn over his Cherokee Nation identification and other family information.

Stephanie Muno filed a complaint in equity Aug. 5 in the Cook County Circuit Court Chancery Division against Dennis White.

According to the suit, White refuses to supply Muno with his Cherokee Nation tribal ID number, which would allow her and her children to identify themselves as members of the Cherokee Nation for the purposes of school applications and other member benefits.

Muno further claims White refuses to provide her with any family information that would help her independently show that she and her children are of Native American descent.

She is seeking a declaratory judgment that White must provide her with the necessary information and is being represented in the case by attorney Eugene E. Murphy Jr. of Murphy & Hourihane LLC in Chicago.
