Exposed sewage pipes caused couple to be thrown off motorcycle, suit says

A couple is suing the city, claiming they were injured when they were thrown from a motorcycle that hit exposed sewage pipes.

Stanley and Joyeux-Noel L. Jedrzejczyk filed a premises liability lawsuit Aug. 4 in the Cook County Circuit Court against the City of Chicago.

According to the complaint, the Jedrzejczyks were riding a motorcycle May 28 on North Elston Avenue just north of its intersection with Irving Park Road, where the street had been ground down to expose sewage drains and risers.

The protruding pipes and risers caused Stanley to lose control of the motorcycle he was driving, causing him and his passenger to be were thrown to the ground. The couple accuses the city of being negligent in failing to maintain the roadway.

The Jedrzejczyks are seeking more than $50,000 in damages and are being represented in the case by attorneys at Hesik-Prybylo in Oak Park.
