Man sues owner of property where he allegedly fell, sustained injuries

Scales 150x150

A man has filed suit against the owner of an apartment complex where he alleges he fell on defective stairs.

In a lawsuit filed Oct. 14 in the Cook County Circuit Court, John Carlberg alleges he was visiting property owned by Ana A. Ponce in the 5000 block of West Berenice Avenue on June 18, 2013, when he slipped and fell on defective stairs.

Because of the incident, Carlberg claims he suffered severe and permanent injuries, was hindered and prevented from attending to his usual duties and endured great pain and anguish. He also incurred medical costs, the suit states.

Carlberg accuses Ponce of negligently managing the property, failing to remove the dangerous condition, not taking any safety precautions to remove the condition and failing to properly inspect the premises, among other allegations.

In his complaint, Carlberg seeks an unspecified judgment, plus costs. He is being represented by Chicago attorney Robert A. Langendorf.
