A woman who alleges she suffered serious injuries after she fell while shopping at a suburban mall is suing its owners.

Mary Louis filed a lawsuit Oct. 14 in Cook County Circuit Court against The Millard Group and The May Department Stores Co.

In her complaint, Louis claims she was walking in the Louis Joliet Mall, which is owned by the defendants, on Oct. 14, 2012, when she slipped and fell on liquid on the floor.

Due to her fall, Louis suffered severe and permanent injuries, was hindered and prevented from attending to her normal duties and suffered great pain and anguish, the suit states. She also incurred medical costs, the complaint says.

Louis blames the defendants for causing her injuries, saying they negligently allowed the premises to remain unsafe, failed to post proper warnings, failed to follow inspection protocols and allowed liquid to remain on the floor.

In her three-count complaint, Louis seeks a judgment of more than $150,000, plus costs and other relief the court deems just.

The Law Office of Andrew S. Kryder in Chicago is representing her.
