Man sues daughter over claims she ousted him from his candle company

Candles

A dispute between a father and daughter over the ownership and operation of a candle company has landed in Cook County's court system.

Ted Cappelen filed a complaint for declaratory judgment Nov. 4 in Cook County Circuit Court against Kim Moyal and Crystal Clear Candle Design Inc. The suit identifies Moyal as Cappelen's daughter and claims she recently formed the defendant company.

According to the complaint, Cappelen is the sole officer and director of Clear Candle Corp., a company that manufactures and sells candles. In September, Cappelen claims, Moyal ousted him from the company and created Crystal Clear Candle Design in order to transfer and divert business from Clear Candle Corp.

Cappelen is seeking a declaration from a judge that he is the owner of the company, as well as a preliminary injunction and a temporary restraining order. He is represented by attorney Robert R. Tepper of Chicago.

Cook County Circuit Court case number: 2014CH18119.
