The daughter of a former railroad worker is suing dozens of companies, claiming her father died as a result of being exposed to asbestos.
Carol D. Green, independent administrator of the Estate of Hugh E. McCormick, filed a complaint Nov. 13 in Cook County Circuit Court against A.W. Chesterton Co., H.B. Fuller Co., Union Carbide Corp. and several others.
According to the complaint, McCormick was employed in various capacities, including as a railroad worker and railroad clerk, between 1943 to 1979, during which time he was exposed to the defendants' asbestos-containing products.
McCormick was diagnosed with mesothelioma as a result of his long-term asbestos exposure and died on Feb. 22, the suit states.
Green claims the defendants were aware or should have been aware of the potential risks of asbestos exposure, but failed to minimize those risks.
Green is seeking damages and is represented by attorney Matthew J. Adair of Cooney & Conway in Chicago.
