The parents of a baby born with brain damage are suing the hospital and medical staff they claim negligently delivered their son.
Aimee and David Florez, individually and on behalf of their minor son, filed suit Dec. 29 in Cook County Circuit Court against Northshore University Health System, doing business as Evanston Hospital; Northshore Physicians Group LLC, doing business as Northshore Medical Group; Drs. Armin Michael Drachler, Eliza Meade and Jennifer Lesko, and registered nurse Lisa Wegrzyn.
According to the complaint, Aimee Florez was admitted to Evanston Hospital on March 22, 2009 as an obstetrical patient.
While there, the Florezes claim the defendants failed to timely react to a non-reassuring fetal monitor strip, recognize her uterus was hyper-stimulated, discontinue the medication Pitocin and deliver their child in a timely manner.
Because the defendants waited too long to perform a cesarean section, the couple contends their son was born with permanent and irreversible brain damage.
The Florezes are represented by attorney Patrick A. Salvi and Patrick A. Salvi II of Salvi, Schostok & Pritchard in Chicago.
