A mother is suing a hospital and medical staff she alleges negligently failed to timely diagnose her son's MRSA infection.

Julie Gordon, individually and on behalf of her minor son, filed suit Jan. 5 in Cook County Circuit Court against the University of Illinois Hospital & Health Services, doing business as University of Illinois Medical Center of Chicago, Drs. Mohamed Hendaus and Carlos Nunez, and registered nurse Jessica Etrata.

According to the complaint, Gordon's son was admitted to the University of Illinois Medical Center on May 5, 2007 under the care of the defendants doctors and nurse. Gordon contends the defendants failed to timely diagnose and treat her minor son's MRSA infection and necrotizing fasciitis, a flesh-eating bacteria.

Gordon contends her son suffered permanent and disfiguring injuries as a result of the defendants' negligence.

Her suit names Drs. Karen Hayani and Ai-Xuan Holterman as respondents-in-discovery to help determine if anyone else should be named as defendants.

Gordon is seeking damages, as well as costs, and is represented by attorney Karen A. Enright of McNabola Law Group in Chicago.
