A man is suing over claims he fell while walking through a city-owned plaza area.

Tyrone Troutman filed a lawsuit Dec. 30 in Cook County Circuit Court against the City of Chicago, alleging he sustained injuries on Feb. 20 when he was crossing East Illinois Street at its intersection with North Cityfront Plaza Drive.

He claims he fell because rubber was missing from the intersection's expansion joint. He blames the city, which owns and maintains the plaza area, for failing to repair the expansion joint, allowing it to remain in a dangerous condition, not providing adequate lighting and failing to warn pedestrians.

Troutman alleges he sustained physical injuries due to the fall. He is represented by Brian Christopher Thomas of Thomas Law in Chicago.

Cook County Circuit Court case number: 2014L013380.
