Jewel customer sues over slip on liquid in bakery department

A woman is suing the owners of a Melrose Park grocery store over claims she fell on a liquid substance found on the floor by the bakery.

Sylvia Rodriguez filed a lawsuit Jan. 5 in Cook County Circuit Court against Jewel Food Stores Inc., New Albertson's Inc., American Stores and SuperValu Inc., the last three of which doing business as Jewel Osco.

According to the complaint, Rodriquez slipped and fell on a liquid substance on Jan. 8, 2013 while in the bakery department of the premises at 800 North Ave. Rodriguez accuses the defendants of failing to remove the liquid substance and warn customers about it.

Rodriguez is represented by attorney Alex D. Abate of Sutter & Ori in Chicago.
