A former factory worker is suing dozens of companies with ties to asbestos-containing products that she alleges caused her to develop lung cancer.

Kathy King filed a lawsuit Jan. 15 in Cook County Circuit Court against A.W. Chesterton Co. H.B. Fuller Co., Union Carbide Corp. and more than 20 other companies.

According to the complaint, King was exposed to asbestos via the defendants’ products between 1973 and 1983, during which time she worked as a powder weigher at Precision Diamond Tool Co. in Elgin. She further alleges secondary exposure to asbestos through her husband, Dale King, who worked in maintenance from 1980 to 2012.

The exposure led her to develop lung cancer, which she became aware of on Dec. 27, 2013, the suit stats.

King claims the defendants knew or should have known their products contained asbestos and would result in physical harm, and accuses them of failing to provide adequate warnings of the danger of asbestos exposure.

She is represented by attorney Robert J. Cooney Jr. of Cooney & Conway in Chicago.
