A woman is suing a nursing home over claims its negligence led to the death of a resident.

Andrea Serdiuk, as special administrator of the Estate of Anna Bembenek, filed a lawsuit Jan. 12 in Cook County Circuit Court against The Grove of La Grange Park LLC.

According to the complaint, Bembenek was a resident at The Grove of La Grange Park from July 16, 2013 to Aug. 19, 2013, during which time she showed signs of dehydration and malnutrition. Physicians at nursing home facility, the suit alleges, diagnosed Bembenek as having poor appetite, difficulty swallowing, difficulty chewing and a rash.

Serdiuk claims the defendant's failure to properly diagnose and treat the rash, provide her with proper food and fluid and monitor her hydration and fluid consumption led to her ultimate death. Serdiuk is represented by Hurley McKenna & Mertz in Chicago.
