A couple is suing a suburban dentist over claims he failed to diagnose a lesion that led to a delay in a cancer diagnosis.

Sheryl Lunde and Kevin Lunde filed suit Jan. 5 in Cook County Circuit Court against Dr. Stanley Treitler, Advanced Periodontics, Anesthesia and Dental Implants.

According to the suit, Sheryl sought dental treatment from Treitler from August 2013 through Oct. 1, 2013, during which time she claims Treitler failed to perform a biopsy on a lesion and recognize the pathology, as well the significance of complaints of numbness in her jaw.

Sheryl contends as a result of the defendants' negligence, she experienced a delayed diagnosis of cancer, a worsening of the condition and physical pain. Her husband, Kevin, lodged a loss of consortium count against Treitler and the dental practice.

Lunde is represented by attorney Thomas J. Nathan of Munday, Nathan & Shulkin in Chicago.
