A man is suing over claims he was injured when he tripped over a mat at Walmart.

Tony M. Marquez filed a lawsuit Jan. 29 in Cook County Circuit Court against Wal-Mart Stores Inc.

According to the complaint, Marquez was at the Walmart on Joliet Road in Hodgkins on Feb. 10, 2013, when he tripped on a raised portion of a mat in the store and sustained injuries.

Walmart negligently failed to repair the mat and warn invitees of the existence of the danger, the suit states.

Marquez seeks more than $50,000 in damages and is represented by Sheldon J. Aberman Gary J. Wintroub & Associates in Chicago.

This is a report on a civil lawsuit filed in Cook County Circuit Court. The details in this report come from an original complaint filed by a plaintiff. Please note, a complaint represents an accusation by a private individual, not the government. It is not an indication of guilt and represents only one side of the story.
