Father of girl who struck face on fallen AC cover files suit against landlord

A tenant of a Chicago apartment is suing the building's owner after his daughter was injured by the cover to an air conditioning unit.

Moazam Mohammed, on behalf of his daughter, filed a lawsuit Feb. 20 in Cook County Circuit Court against Umar Piracha.

According to the complaint, Mohammed leased an apartment in the 6100 block of North Hoyne Avenue, where the air conditioning unit cover fell to the floor on July 2, 2014. He claims his daughter sustained injuries to her body when she fell to the floor and struck the air conditioning unit cover with her face.

Mohammed accuses Piracha of being negligent by failing to fix and repair the air conditioning unit cover and warn him of the dangerous condition.

He is represented by attorney Bradley A. Skafish of Deutschman & Associates in Chicago.

Cook County Circuit Court case number: 2015L001863.
