Cookcountycourt

A couple is suing a local bakery, alleging negligence after the wife suffered a slip-related injury at the business.

Irma Chavez and Rafael Chavez filed a lawsuit June 16 in Cook County Circuit Court against La Central Bakery V Inc., doing business as Panaderia Mexicana Central Bakery Inc., and La Central Bakery Inc., doing business as Panaderia Mexicana Central Bakery Inc., alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, on June 17, 2013, Irma Chavez was a customer in the defendant's establishment at 2422 W. 47th St., Chicago, when she slipped on a puddle of liquid on the floor and fell. As a result, the lawsuit states, Chavez sustained injuries, pain and suffering, and medical expenses.

The suit says the bakery failed to keep liquid off its floor, allowed it to accumulate or remove it from the floor, warn Chavez the puddle was there and make a reasonable inspection of its business.

Irma Chavez seeks damages in excess of $50,000, plus costs. Her husband, Rafael Chavez, alleging loss of consortium, also seeks damages in excess of $50,000, plus costs. They are represented by attorney Scott E. Encher at Steven B. Salk & Associates in Chicago.

Cook County Circuit Court case number 2015L006075.
